Floral

This is the first major exhibition by Mark P Cullen in over a decade. Cullen explores different textures by way of brush and knife, always trying to capture the essence of the image while paring back to its’ simplest form. His colour palette is unique by virtue of how he prepares each canvas with a base. In this exhibition, we launch his impasto paintings, a method which creates three-dimensionality and high texture of the painting’s surface, achieved by the thickness and layering of the paint that teases the viewer to engage in their form.

Works will be on display online from 22 November 2020. We will also provide private viewing to collectors interested in acquiring artworks between 22 Nov – 1 Dec. If you are interested in purchasing please contact us directly via info@wiltongallery.ie or make an appointment. Our onsite doors will reopen to the public on 2 December (subject to gov guidelines).

Peter FitzGerald (Editor of CIRCA Art Magazine) said of Mark’s work,

One of the exciting things about Mark’s paintings is that you can read the process of enquiry in the works themselves…you can see how Mark has taken different angles on the same subject matter or tried out the same painterly language on different subject matters, always with a sense of getting a better handle on ways of expressing what fascinated him in the first place…”

Mark Cullen is an Irish artist, born in Dublin in 1960, who only started painting on a full-time basis in 2003. He has successfully exhibited his paintings in numerous exhibitions throughout Ireland, most notably at the RHA annual exhibition and VUE in Dublin, the Eigse exhibition in Carlow, RUA annual exhibition in Belfast. His distinctive paintings of scenes in and around the harbours of South County Dublin, depicted in the bold, strongly contrasting palette have won him a considerable following.
