Wilton Gallery is pleased to present in our Winter Exhibition recent work by Anthony Ivan Wigglesworth at the gallery.

He is a contemporary Irish Artist (1979). Throughout his career he has negotiated between music and painting. Wigglesworth moves effortlessly between the two mediums. His work has been shown internationally from New York to Miami, to Edinburgh to Paris.

The work seeks to capture the ethereal by exploring texture, movement, and effects of spatial illusion. Inspired by music and the Irish landscape; they aim to present a celebration of abstraction in its pure form rather than a representation of the natural world. He is interested in exploring the properties of paint as an artistic device.

His practice involves creating and destroying through layering and manipulating the paint with brushes, palette knives and large scrapers. He first makes an underlayer of paint, then steadily layers surface upon the surface, merging multiple colours and continuously building up various paint dimensions. Through this process, the artist creates dynamic works integrating vivid and bright colours, often employing silver, gold, and pewter paints to create sheens within the pieces themselves.

Wigglesworth, graduated with a M.Phil. Master's in music and media technologies, 1 st class honours 2011 - 2013 from Trinity College Dublin.
